(Yes, this is my photo. I took in early June on an Ladies Weekend in Panama City Beach Florida.)
The elusive summer-time of fun…we all chase it down. Some of us manage to catch every moment possible and some of us can’t seem to find it.
There’s the stress of trying to “keep the kids entertained”. Some parents go overboard & schedule their children in every event possible, from Vacation Bible School (and I’m talking multiple VBSs around their town), swim lessons, summer day camps, camps in general, and various other activities. Some are lucky to have their own pool or a neighborhood pool where they can practically live at each day until they head home, exhausted from hours of fun.
Then there are other moms (sort of like me?) that are “old school”. (Man I hate feeling my age when I type this!). Old school summer is kicking the kids outdoors & saying “Don’t come back in unless you have to go to the bathroom or are bleeding.” There’s plenty to do & explore outdoors, right?
My kids like to pet bees. The big, fuzzy, bumblebees that hover in miraculously in the air, as if God himself giggled to think how we’d be pondering over this odd insect. Funny thing is when we tell people we pet bees they kind of twitch at the thought. It’s not like I’ve taught them to the “Baby Bumblebee” song & practice it. I’ve taught them to enjoy the buzzing of the bees, their hovering capabilities, the way some drink the nectar and the way others gather pollen on their legs. It’s really quite fascinating. I wish I had a few photos of them petting the bees; that would require lots of patience and luck.
I’m kind of sick to my stomach that June flew by. We’ve done nothing over the ordinary this summer. We have no access to any pools & I’m not dragging them to a local public pool by myself. Seriously, it’s the most nerve-racking thing to go into public with them at times. Trying to keep them together, not lose Mr. Monkey Pants & keep the other two from bickering or fighting. Jeez.
There’s so much more coming up. I just need to kick back & have a beer, right? Yeah, I’m thinking the phrase, “Life made better by science” should be a bumper sticker for me.
